For the Week of June 2nd

Talent Show

Students have been selected for the talent show and there are quite a number of them. For that reason we want to limit each student's performance to about a minute. If your child is performing in a group, it may run a little longer. Please help your child practice this week. We want them to feel successful. The talent show is this Thursday, June 5th at 1:00.

Make Summer Plans

Students who continue to read during the summer months will continue to make progress in their reading abilities. One way to encourage summer reading is to use a web site that is made specifically to help students with their reading. Prairieview has purchased a number of licenses to web sites to help students in their reading. If you would like to have access to one or more of these sites for your child to use over the summer, please contact me and I will set it up for you.

For the Week of May 19th

Talent Show

Try-outs for the talent show will be the week of May 19th. I am still taking applications so if your child wants to try-out there is still time to sign-up. I am hoping to have all of the try-outs finished next week so encourage your child to schedule a time. The try-out sheets are posted by my classroom door.

For the Week of May 12th

Chess Club

Chess Club has ended for this school year. We had a great group of students who participated. Parents - if you don't know how to play, let your son or daughter teach you. Quality family time - that's what its all about.

Talent Show

Talent Show sign-up sheets went home with 4th and 5th graders on Friday, May 9th. Please send those back to school by Wednesday, May 14th. We are looking forward to another interesting talent show this year.

For the Week of May 5th

Chess Club

Thursday's club is over for the school year. Wednesday's club will meet for the last time this week, since we had to reschedule earlier in the year. I have enjoyed working with the chess club. It is a great group of students. It has been fun watching them grow in their chess abilities.

MAP testing and Aimsweb Benchmarking

The MAP tests are computer based tests over math and reading. We also do 3 Aimsweb tests. There are 2 math tests, one on computation and one on concepts and application. We also do a timed reading test that helps us to know how fast your child is able to read. All of these tests are important because we use the data to help decide if you child needs any kind of extra support - therefore, it is very important that your child do the best that they can. A good nights sleep, and a healthy breakfast are two factors which can really make a difference in a student's test taking abilities. I think it is very important, especially this week, to make sure that your child gets plenty of time to sleep.
